June 2010    DTS expand capabilities to include ground-source heat pump feasibility reports


DTS Raeburn now have the in-house capabilities to undertake ground-source heat pump and geothermal feasibility reports in addition to our geotechnical and environmental engineering services. The feasibility reports provide detailed information on important site factors such as geology, hydrogeology and groundwater conditions, thermogeology, potential environmental receptors and Environment Agency Licensing.


It is essential to have a good knowledge of these factors in order to assess the suitability of a ground-source heat pump system for a particular site, as well as to provide information on the expected drilling conditions that may be encountered, which can have a considerable affect on the cost of the project.


March 2010    DTS complete hydrocarbon contamination study in Okirika, Rivers State, Nigeria


DTS Raeburn in partnership with a local consultant has recently completed a detailed study on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, into the extent of hydrocarbon contamination at Ekrikana Creek, Okirika, located in the eastern Niger Delta, Nigeria.


The scope of the study included a review of background information, mapping and site reconnaissance, a geophysical site survey, chemical analysis of soil and water samples for quantitative assessment, estimation of the volume of affected soils, consultation with stakeholders and identification of suitable remedial options.


The study identified the primary source of hydrocarbon contamination in the study area. Initial recommendations for remediation included the construction of a treatment barrier across the existing drainage channel and in-situ remediation of soils. Additional work was however recommended in order to refine the remediation proposals.
